Student Voice

Catholic Education Melbourne (CEM) recognises investment in student voice and agency as critical for student engagement where children and young people’s opinions and unique perspectives are valued as a key element in the learning and teaching process.

CEM is committed to the active participation of students in all aspects of school life and to empowering children and young people through the provision of meaningful opportunities for them to contribute to their school community.

The CEM Student Voice Statement describes how a shared, purposeful dialogue between students and teachers contributes to better understanding and improved learning opportunities. It provides strategies and ideas that contribute to authentic student engagement in their learning, school and community. The statement covers the meaning of student voice, its value and intended outcomes, suggested approaches, some key questions and resources.
