History:
Queen of Peace Primary School is one of three Catholic schools within the parish of St Martin De Porres, Laverton. The school began in 1982 with an enrolment of 121 pupils. The first principal was Mr Allan Williams and the first parish priest was Fr G. Fitzgerald. The initial building development was not ready for occupancy at the beginning of 1982; hence, during the first term, classes were held at St Martin De Porres. In 1987 the Registered Schools Board officially registered the school's name as 'Queen of Peace Parish Primary School'. Prior to 1987, the school was known as 'Altona Bay Catholic School'. Designed by architect Mr Paul Archibald, the school has had four major building developments. The largest development was the addition of 8 classrooms and a library in 1988. A decade later, in 1998, a major development comprising three offices, pupil amenities, a canteen, storage room, an information technology room and a school hall were completed.
Description:
At Queen of Peace we are proud of our growing traditions and of our cultural diversity. The language backgrounds of our current pupils are: English, Maltese, Italian, Filipino (Tagalog), Croatian, Vietnamese, Greek, Polish, Chinese, French (Mauritian), Hindi, German, Dutch, Macedonian, Tamil, French, Slovenian, Spanish, Samoan, Albanian, Fijian, Maori, Hungarian, Portuguese, Malay and Seychellois. Yes, we’ve got the world covered – almost! The school's current enrolment is approximately 635 pupils. We are a 3-streamed school with 21 class groups offered for boys and girls from Prep to Year 6.
